This past weekend my husband and I had a rare weekend without the kids and we spent it in the picturesque town of Saratoga Springs. On Friday evening we took out the town bikes that our B&B lent us and took the short ride to downtown, a bustling and lovely boardwalk of tourists and locals alike.

We parked our bikes and walked along the Saratoga Springs Boulevard, trying to decide which of the many fantastic restaurants we wanted to dine at that evening. After we had passed a few, the smells of wood smoke coming from Druthers Brewing Company drew us in like a powerful force. The smells drifted out to the street from the back-ally restaurant with people laughing and talking loudly in this hipster restaurant that's also family friendly for the young hipster parents. It's loud enough that your screaming toddler will barely be noticed. We asked for a table outside and were seated at a high top table and attended to by a cheerful server. (It's nice to sit outside without curious tourists walking by checking out your food). The service was prompt and timely from the point we were given our menu to the check, and there was never a long period of time that we were wondering where our food was. We sipped on our craft beers while the sun started to set on brick buildings, reflecting of the terris and pergolas. Children danced joyfully to the music of the overhead speakers on a small raised platform. By the end of our meal we felt well satisfied and cozy.

I wished I could have chosen more from the menu, and I will definitely come back again to try more, but we can only eat so much in one sitting! What we did get was very filling and satisfying. We started out with a menu of about ten craft beers, unlike the overwhelming selections that some other restaurants might offer. I chose the "Against the Grain Hefeweizen". I'm pretty picky about my beers but this one was amazing! It had a round body flavor and was fruity, almost like a wine. My husband chose "The Dare", which was citrusy, tart, and a little salty. I didn't really like it but my husband did.

The food menu is also selective and short, with each menu item appearing to have some real thought put into it, not just placed there as a filler.

I had a hard time deciding what appetizer to get, narrowing it down to the Beer Cheese Dip or the Loaded Monkey Bread and I finally decided on the Monkey Bread. I was not disappointed! It came out soon after our drinks, crispy wood-fired bread covered in bacon, cheese and scallions on a sizzling platter with a generous bowl of marinara sauce for dipping in the middle. Ed and I devoured it and were fighting over the last piece!

Next came our main dishes, Caribbean wood fired pizza, with ham, mango salsa, and pulled pork for me,

and the PEANUT BUTTER BURGER, with house-made peanut butter on the bottom, and tomato jam, bacon, and honey on top, for Ed.

My pizza was a little disappointing, I would have liked more pulled pork, there was barely any on it. I ended up stealing my husband's burger and it was delicious! If there are any of you out there who are timid or grossed out by the idea of peanut butter on a burger, I have to tell you, don't kick it 'til you try it! It was a surprising flavor combination that burst with flavor and makes you reminisce about your childhood... I'm getting hungry just writing about this!

I would give this restaurant a 4.5 out of 5 stars. It was almost perfect except for the disappointing pizza.
